The Carcross Desert

Behold, the ‘world’s smallest desert’, located in the unlikely northern locale of Carcross, Yukon; a balmy six degrees south of the Arctic Circle in the northern edge of Canada’s Coast Mountains.  A mere 260 ha (642 acres) in size, the sands attract many curious tourists from around the world who wonder how such a desert landscape could occur in the middle of such a cold location, surrounded by mountain forests.
